Being surrounded by no less than 6 national parks, the Lazy Elk is ideally located for a visit any time of year. In the beautiful summer there’s hiking, cycling, epic mountain-biking, white-water rafting, climbing, fishing, hunting sailing – you name it. Or you can just relax and take in the views at the Lodge. In the winter you can add skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, sledding, ice-climbing and plenty more to the list. In the spring and autumn, the pace is a little slower but there’s plenty to go and do / see; including famous hikes with views of the golden larches in the fall.
Whatever time of year you come, you’ll have the comfort of a large, cosy log-home waiting for you.

“This was by far the most impressive accommodation we’ve ever stayed in. The hosts went above and beyond to make sure our stay was incredible- they organised a Christmas tree in the cabin and even had decorations for us to put on the tree, once they learned this was a tradition we’d be missing away from home. They included a personalised gift for each of our children too. The kitchen was well stocked and everything worked like clockwork – I really appreciate the efficiency of a well run home in particular. The hosts were friendly and available to respond to our questions and address issues such as the fire stove not working at one point. Anything we raised was addressed immediately. I could not have asked for a better experience. My family and I will definitely return – I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this cabin to everyone. An absolute gem! “The view! The mountain views from almost every room in this cabin are breathtaking! The cabin is extremely spacious — lots of room to spread out and have your own space. Very well-stocked kitchen! We had everything we needed to cook up amazing meals. The property is private and peaceful. It feels like your own private getaway in the mountains. Charlie and Andy were lovely and responsive hosts. “We just spent a week at the Lazy Elk. It was the perfect setting for our family which includes two sons ages 20 and 23. The home is big, beautiful and spacious. The kitchen is fully stocked so we cooked many dinners at home.
The pool table allowed for some friendly competition among family members. The hot tub was great. We all lounged in the living room each night reading and watching movies. My husband loved the deck. I marveled at the view from the master bathroom window. Simply stunning.
Golden is a cute town tucked in the mountains and you can find groceries, wine, gourmet coffee and pastries. We ate at several excellent restaurants that Charlie recommended ( one was Mexican and one had bison burgers). They offered excellent day hike ideas too.
Most of all, Charlie and Andrew made us feel comfortable from the moment we booked their property. They are a lovely couple. We will return again and tell our friends about the Lazy Elk! It was a magical vacation.”
