Hi! We are Charlotte & Andy! We moved from the UK to the beautiful town of Golden in BC, Canada to surround ourselves with nature and to live a life full of adventure.
So we bought this property in 2020 and carried out some renovations while building our own eco-home on the acreage – where we now live. We then created The Lazy Elk and started hosting on Airbnb in December 2020, where we have built an exceptional reputation. The Lazy Elk is still available to book through Airbnb, but we wanted to provide our customers with other options, so we have set up our own direct-booking website to afford our guests some flexibility
A Climate Positive Business
While we appreciate this isn’t everyone’s priority, we recognise that tourism can be quite a carbon-intensive industry, and it’s important to us that we do our best to reduce the impact we have on the environment by providing sustainable accommodation. This includes everything that goes into running the Lodge; renting our home out and the inevitable impact of the journeys our guests make to come and stay here.
We want to do this without impacting anyone’s experience of staying with us. In 2022, in addition to reducing our overall footprint through the use of renewable fuels; we pro-actively invested in the planting of mangrove and boreal forest trees (through tentree) in order to make the impact of renting of our home climate positive (carbon negative). We’ll continue to do this and make further improvements where we can.
Why Book Direct?
We have now set up a direct booking site to allow a little more flexibility, and to help reduce costs for our guests. We still love Airbnb and maintain our listing there, so if guests are more comfortable booking through that site that’s no problem at all! By using this site, guests can expect:

- The ability to contact us to arrange events (Airbnb policy prohibits many events)
- Lower booking / admin fees for both guests and ourselves
